SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--FUJIFILM Dimatix, the leading provider of industrial inkjet printheads,
components and systems, introduced today its new Dimatix Materials
Printer (DMP). The new DMP-5000 is a large format, non-contact, fluid
deposition system capable of jetting a wide range of functional fluids
using multiple FUJIFILM Dimatix fluid deposition printheads
interchangeably.
“Our scalable approach means that initial research, sample and process
developments are directly translatable from the laboratory and can be
used to specify prototype printing system design and development.”
The new DMP-5000 features a printable area of 500 x 500 mm and maintains
a positional accuracy and repeatability of ± 5 µm and ± 1 µm
respectively. The DMP-5000 uses a temperature controlled vacuum platen
to accurately register, maintain and thermally manage substrates during
printing. These substrates include plastic, glass, ceramics, and
silicon, as well as flexible substrates ranging from membranes, gels,
and thin films to paper products.
The printer includes an integrated drop visualization system that
captures droplet formation images dynamically as droplet ejection
parameters are adjusted to produce a tuned printhead and fluid
combination. Also, sophisticated electronics allow the printhead to be
calibrated on a per nozzle basis to compensate for any
channel-to-channel variability. A second camera system allows substrate
measurements and alignment, observations of fluid drying behavior, with
droplet measurement and placement calculations.
The DMP-5000 joins the FUJIFILM Dimatix DMP-2800 and DMP-3000 printers
introduced in 2005 and 2009, respectively. All three printer systems
come with a drop watcher, fiducial camera, heated vacuum platen,
automated printhead maintenance and cleaning, PC, monitor and easy to
use software.
The DMP-2800 is a bench-top system designed for micro-precision jetting
of functional fluids onto virtually any surface. It can build and define
patterns over an area of 200 x 300 mm onto substrates up to 25 mm thick
using single-use printhead cartridges that researchers can fill with
their own fluids.
Similar in features and operation to the DMP-2800, the floor standing
DMP-3000 with its high precision motion control is an inkjet deposition
system that can jet fluids using both cartridge-based printheads for
small manufacturing volumes to high performance printheads for
industrial, high throughput requirements. The DMP-3000 has a printable
area of 300 x 300 mm and maintains a positional accuracy and
repeatability of ± 5 µm and ± 1 µm, respectively.
Multiple FUJIFILM Dimatix printhead models including the DMP
Cartridge-based printheads, the D-Class printheads and the SX3 and SE3
hybrid production-worthy printheads are used interchangeably with the
DMP-5000 and DMP-3000 printers.
The Dimatix Materials Cartridge is a 16-jet, user-fillable, snap-in
replaceable printhead and fluid supply used with all DMP models and is
available in 1 pL and 10 pL drop volumes. It is based on FUJIFILM
Dimatix’s proprietary silicon MEMS technology. The industry-first 1 pL
cartridge can deposit features as small as 20 μm (20 millionths of a
meter) to fabricate products such as organic thin-film transistors
(TFTs) and printed circuits.
The D-128 DPN Printheads have 128 individually addressable jets and are
constructed using silicon MEMS technology similar to the Dimatix
Materials Cartridge, thus enabling direct translation of findings from
one printhead to the other. With the industry's only 1 pL production
piezoelectric printhead, the D-128 DPN Printheads are also the only
printheads with integrated cooling capability to maintain fluid
viscosity for operation over heated substrates. The D-128 DPN 1 pL and
10 pL Printheads share identical physical features for easy
interchangeability. Both are further enhanced using driver-per-nozzle
(DPN) capability, which allows compensating for any channel-to-channel
variability between each of the 128-jets. This trimming feature ensures
drop volume uniformity, essential for dispensing applications or
modifications to drop velocity for increased placement accuracy,
critical for patterning applications especially when using very small
drop sizes.
The SX3 Printhead is a highly compact, high performance hybrid
printhead. The SX3 delivers a precise 10 pL droplet size from 128 inline
jets that can be individually tuned. A silicon nozzle plate with a
non-wetting coating is compatible with the aggressive fluids used in
electronics and other fabrication applications.
The SE3 Printhead like the SX3 is a compact, high performance hybrid
printhead designed for precise drop placement of larger drop sizes. The
SE3 delivers a 35 pL calibrated drop through 128 inline jets that can be
individually tuned. Using a silicon nozzle plate and a non-wetting
coating, it is compatible with the aggressive fluids used in electronics
and other fabrication applications.
“With the addition of the new DMP-5000 combined with our broad range of
interchangeable printheads, wide range of drop volumes and application
specific capabilities, Dimatix now provides the most comprehensive
solutions in the industry for process, fluids and product development
for materials deposition applications,” said Martin Schoeppler, CEO and
President of Fujifilm Dimatix, Inc.
“Our scalable approach means that initial research, sample and process
developments are directly translatable from the laboratory and can be
used to specify prototype printing system design and development.”
FUJIFILM Dimatix is demonstrating the DMP-2800, DMP-3000 and the new
DMP-5000 at its expanded corporate headquarters in Santa Clara,
